SYSBIO.IT – Centre of Systems Biology, Italy – is the Italian research infrastructure for Systems Biology partner of ISBE. SYSBIO.IT metabolomics lab has state-of-the-art mass spectrometers (Agilent 7200 GC-QTOF, Agilent 6550 LC-QTOF, and specific software) and the expertise to study the metabolic profiling and to identify metabolic pathways variations between cancer and normal mammalian cells. Through the use of labelled compounds (i.e. 13C glucose) intracelllular metabolic fluxes can be traced, while PET can be used to trace labelled metabolites in mouse models.
The computational branch of SYSBIO.IT focuses on development of models of biological functions in eukaryotes and in the development of high performance computational approaches. Constraint-based models are being used to study metabolic design principles in cancer cells.
